Christianity in Nepal- Church history of Nepal- (In English with video)



Introduction to Nepal
Nepal, known as the country of Buddha, Mount Everst, brave Gurkhas, mountains, temples, gods and the home of Hinduism. Nepal is located in South Asia between two large countries: India and China. Its total area is 56826 square miles. 75% of the land of Nepal is covered by the high mountains and Himalayas. Nepal is rich in diversity and natural beauties. There are 126 ethnic groups in Nepal and 120 languages are in existence.

Religious Situation
Nepal was known as the only Hindu country in the world. But now it's a secular country. 80% populations of this country is Hindu. Temples are more in numbers than the schools and colleges. 33 million gods are worshiped by the Hindus. They worship idols in their homes and sacred places. Huge animal sacrifices are made every years. Though Nepal is known as a secular country, it has Anti-conversion law.

Christianity
Christianity was introduced in Nepal in 16th century by western missionaries. Churches were planted in the Kathmandu valley. But later King Prithivi Narayan Shaha expelled all Christians including missionaries out of country. After this doors for the evangelism in Nepal was closed nearly for 200 years. No churches were planted, no one was converted during this period. After the Second World War doors of the Nepal were opened for the other countries. Thus Nepal began to evangelize again. The first modern church of Nepal was planted in 1952. The first church of Nepal is only 67 years old. God worked in this countries amazingly. Now it's one of the top countries where Christianity is growing the fastest. Officially only 1.4% population of Nepal are Christians. Because of Anti-conversion law many Christians are being persecuted now. Preaching gospel is strictly prohibited in Nepal.
